Introduction

 

 

Many of us that do not want to spend an arm and a leg on a video card were very excited for the launch of the mid range 8 series video cards.  However our giddiness and anticipations were met with confusion and frustration.  It seems many reviews have pitted the 8600GTS and 8600GT against their big brother the 8800GTS.  Not only were these cards out gunned but various reviews had these cards pushing resolutions of 2560x1600.

 

 

Today RWG is going to take the 8600GTS and 8600GT and put them to the test in real world environments.  We will be using the latest driver 162.18 from NVIDIA and show how these video cards perform in their natural environment, resolutions like 1600x1200 and 1680x1050.  These cards will also be pitted against the infamous 7900GT, a once supreme ruler over the video card world.  Will the 8600GTS and 8600GT perform as expected for a mid range product or are they really as dismal as some reviews lead us to believe?
